Hobart: Managing Performance and Respectful Workplaces

Workshop | The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel
Tuesday, May 12, 2015 - 9:00am - 3:00pm
Hobart, Tasmania

This workshop looks at two critical challenges that managers and leaders must deal with on a regular basis; effective people and performance management while fostering a respectful workplace. This workshop will provide participants with the skills to foster an engaged workforce who will be more committed to their organisation’s goals and values, motivated to contribute to organisational success, and are able at the same time to enhance their own sense of well-being.

Performance management is a shared process that is optimized when there is continuous communication between employees and their supervisors about work expectations, goals and performance. These conversations are essential to building successful teams.

The second part of this workshop Respectful Workplaces focuses on identifying, preventing and managing discrimination, bullying and harassment. The importance of workplace culture is considered and how to leverage culture to foster respectful workplaces that are free from bullying and harassment.

More specifically, topics will include:

Managing Performance

  • Giving and receiving feedback;
  • Dealing with conflict;
  • Managing poor and unsatisfactory performance;
  • Fair processes;
  • Unfair dismissal.

Respectful Workplaces

  • Consideration of the legislative environment including a look at recent developments;
  • Identifying bullying and harassment;
  • Strategies to prevent and to manage bullying and harassment when it does occur;
  • Understand the culture of your work environment and how to foster positive working relationships;
  • Practical examples of actual cases and scenarios.

This program is designed for line managers, coordinators and anyone who manages staff in the not-for-profit community sector who would like to develop confidence, knowledge, strategies and technical skills in dealing with the often complex issues creating respectful workplaces through equal employment opportunities and managing people and their performance.
